We transform the surfaces to create unique design furnitures.

Bottega Capod’opera

The Bottega Capod’opera is a place to come together and exchange ideas, where practical, authentic and humble know-how is generated. Just like the medieval arts and crafts guilds in which, after years of study, student apprentices presented their “capodopera”, or masterpieces, to their teachers.

The Bottega Capod’opera is a place in which the poetry of the material comes to the fore in an ongoing attempt to master its most distinctive aspects, those that, combined with pure, linear geometries, and solid forms, make our surfaces unique. It may be a coat of paint, a resin, an engraving or any combination of these brought together. Little by little the piece takes on a new look.

  • 01. ANTIQUING
Just like archaeology, bringing a pattern back to the surface is a skill that requires meticulous technique. Aging (or decapé) is an ancient decorative finishing technique. Only through this manual process is it possible to make the natural contrast between the grain and the surface stand out.
  • 02. “ANDARE A BOTTEGA”
The “bottega” is where one learns the secrets of the trade. The elderly teach the young, exchanging skills, and growing together. A true strength and a source of pride, at Capod’opera we still work at our own pace, and according to our natural instincts.
  • 03. ACCIAIO PLUS FINISH
When we say that we “transform” pieces of furniture, what we mean is that we are able transfer the appearance of one material to another. The soul of wood becomes steel. Surfaces are coloured, scratched and enriched. Appearances change and designs take on new qualities.
  • 04. A PATCHWORK OF STYLES
With certain pieces more so than others, one can experiment with an incredible variety of combinations and textures. And the bottega is filled with trolley-loads of modules with all styles of decoration. Once the patterns have been applied and have dried, they become single pieces.
  • 05. THE WAVY PATTERN
Gestures are repeated, becoming a dance. When Aero is polished, the reflections trace the grooves on each side. Brightness is its most immediate characteristic, it is this detail that stands out, capturing the eye and permeating one’s memory.
  • 06. THE FINISH
Our artisans’ aptitude for practicality is reflected in the craftsmanship with which they carry out their work. In order to create one-of-kind pieces that cannot be replicated, the manual aspect is fundamental.
  • 07. HANDMADE RESULTS
It might seem incredible that a texture can be created using masking tape. Herein lies the value of ingenuity – the ability to be able to transfer every reflection, sign or emotion to the piece, while guaranteeing an impeccable final result. Expressive ability brings the surface to life.
  • 08. TRANSFERRING EMOTIONS
In the painting room, colour exudes from every corner. Between the doors closing and picking up the airbrush, there opens up a window in time to free one’s mind, and to make space for creativity.
  • 09. SANDING STONE
Capod’opera is also about engineering configurations and the systematization of production processes. Machinery helps in making processes uniform. The use of special tools in creating our Stone resin coating guarantees a rough and tactile effect that is similar to stone, yet pleasant to the touch.
  • 10. ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD
Gold plating is one of our most fascinating processes, requiring the greatest skill and unparalleled precision. While the absolute highest quality raw material contributes to the stylistic effect, it is the hand – strong and steady – that creates the magic. High craftsmanship is expressed to its fullest potential.
